Terms of Use
Important
By creating an account on this site you are deemed to have accepted these Terms of Use. Please read them carefully.
Last updated: 4 November 2026
These terms cover your use of PostcodePing (postcodeping.co.uk), a free service run by us. By creating an account, you agree to them. Please also read our Privacy policy.
What PostcodePing does
PostcodePing checks official open data, such as food hygiene ratings published by the Food Standards Agency, and emails you when something new appears near the places you’ve chosen. It’s a free, non-commercial service.
Your account
- You must be 16 or over to create an account.
- Use an email address you control, and keep your password to yourself. You’re responsible for what happens in your account.
- One account per person. You can add up to 3 places.
- You can pause alerts, unsubscribe or delete your account at any time from your My account page.
About the information in our alerts
- Our alerts are based on official data published by others. We pass it on as published and don’t check or change it.
- That data can be incomplete, out of date or wrong. For example, a food hygiene rating may appear some weeks after the inspection, and a business may have improved since.
- Locations are approximate, and distances are measured in a straight line from the centre of your postcode.
- Always check the original source (we link to it in every alert) before relying on any information or acting on it.
- An alert isn’t advice, and isn’t a recommendation for or against any business or place.
- If you think a rating or record is wrong, contact the organisation that published it. For food hygiene ratings, that’s the local council.
Fair use
Please don’t:
- use automated tools to sign up, scrape the site or overload it
- try to access other people’s accounts or data
- use PostcodePing for anything unlawful, or to harass any person or business
- copy or resell our alerts in bulk
We may suspend or delete accounts that break these rules.
Availability
PostcodePing is provided free and “as is”. We aim to keep it running smoothly, but we can’t promise it will always be available, that every alert will be sent, or that alerts will arrive at a particular time. We may change, pause or stop the service, or any type of alert. If we close the service, we’ll tell you by email first where we can.
Our responsibility to you
PostcodePing is a free service built on other organisations’ data, so we can’t accept responsibility for losses that come from:
- errors, gaps or delays in the source data
- alerts that are late, missing or not delivered
- decisions you make based on an alert
Nothing in these terms limits our liability where the law doesn’t allow it to be limited, such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Data sources and licences
Alerts contain public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Food hygiene ratings © Food Standards Agency.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the service develops. If we make important changes, we’ll update the date above and email you first.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
